Tribal House
What is Tribal House?
House music was born in Chicago in the early 1980s — in the Black and Latino queer club scene, at the Warehouse and the Music Box. It was electronic, repetitive, and built on rhythms that connected to African percussion traditions even while using entirely modern technology. When that sound moved to Africa — specifically to South Africa, where kwaito developed in the townships of Johannesburg in the early 1990s — it merged with local musical memory and became something different again.
Tribal House keeps traditional African rhythmic structures inside electronic production. The percussion patterns reference ancestral rhythms. The energy is communal — music made for gathering, not for individual consumption. NMC Signal plays it because it is one of the clearest lines between Africa’s oldest musical traditions and the present.
